The letters were penned by a 17th Century nun to an officer in the French Army and are perhaps one of the most powerful displays of human emotion to ever be splashed across a page.
Though monastic chroniclers attempt to hide all traces of the letters by attributing them to the fictional writings of a politician, the truth of the unabashed heartbreak of a simple nun continues to echo throughout the ages.
